The investigation of using grammarly as online grammar checker in the process of writing

Abstract

Writing becomes one of the important skill in English besides the other skills because in writing, we should express our ideas in written form. Besides, writing becomes one of the hardest skill in English because we should consider to the grammar, punctuation, word spell, and etc. To make a good writing, people use online grammar checker named Grammarly to assist them in writing. This research used Survey Research. This research used Questionnaire and Interview to collect the data by online due to coronavirus pandemic. The participants of this research were 30 students of English Education Department from 6th and 8th semester at UNSIKA. The result showed that the students percieve positive and negative perception about Grammarly as online grammar checker. Students believed that Grammarly can assist them in checking their grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Besides, the feedback of Grammarly can help them to improve their grammar. In addition, students believed that Grammarly is easy to use. However, Grammarly has some weakness for students such as it requires stable internet connection and sometimes the result is not inappropriate.
